Two monks sentenced for protesting land grabs
May. 2 (TCHRD): Trulku Jangchub and Pesang, monks from Jophu Monastery in Jomda County, Chamdo Prefecture, “Tibet Autonomous Region” (“TAR”) have been sentenced to three years and two and half years prison terms respectively in March this year for leading protest against official land grabs.
Towards the end of year 2009, the local Chinese authorities decided to take take control of Jophu monastery’s compound for development reasons sparking protests among monks and local people.
