Sinister ‘Beijing Consensus’, amoral foreign policy
Jan. 6 (The Telegraph/by George Grant): Britain must not allow itself to be tempted into ignoring Chinese policy in other key areas such as human rights, democracy promotion and global security, in exchange for Chinese gold.
For China, the pursuit of economic interests independent of other considerations has long been official policy. In what has increasingly become known as the “Beijing Consensus”, China maintains a strict policy of non-interference in the political and humanitarian affairs of other countries, just so long as the business deals keep on coming.
Unfortunately, China’s amoral foreign policy is not restricted to bilateral dealings with states, but also extends to its activity in the diplomatic arena, where Beijing uses its formidable political and economic clout to great effect.
