Sikyong inaugurates CTA’s official COVID-19 Emergency Relief Committee Website

Dharamshala: As people across the world are struggling inconceivably due to the Wuhan origin COVID-19, inflicting both man and economy, the Tibetan community under the leadership of CTA and Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay are doing its best and taking necessary steps to combat coronavirus situation in the Tibetan community.

One significant step taken is the establishment of emergency response team called CTA’s Task Force for the Wuhan-originated, COVID-19 pandemic and today Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay launched CTA’s official COVID-19 Emergency Relief Committee website that aims to deliver to Tibetan people across the globe comprehensive information and data about the pandemic outbreak and the measures taken by each distinctive department of CTA in curbing the unprecedented challenges posed by the ongoing COVID-19 situation in the Tibetan community. The website is accessible both in English and Tibetan.

Addressing a gathering consisting of Home Kalon Sonam Topgyal Khorlatsang, Health Kalon Choekyong Wangchuk, Chief Resilience Officer and Director of SARD Kaydor Aukatsang, and Information Secretary T.G Arya, Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay said that the purpose of launching an independent COVID-19 specific website is to provide consolidated information on CTA’s approach in tackling COVID-19 in the Tibetan community following its emergence in December 2019 in Wuhan, China.

“Through this website, CTA aims to enable Tibetans to well-informed, timely, and accurate information on the guidance and ongoing relief measures of CTA in addition to solving problems faced by the Tibetan community during the crisis,” said Sikyong.

The confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Tibetan community is relatively low compare to others largely due to the full cooperation of the people and the timely action of CTA through its stringent guidelines among a plethora of other measures it has taken to prevent the spread of the outbreak.

Sikyong commended the Home Department for arranging the release of provisions of INR 5000 to approx. 2000 Tibetans affected in India, Nepal and Bhutan within a week of announcement and in 2 weeks, he announced that CTA will proceed the distribution accordingly.

Similarly, he commended the Health department’s dedicated service by pointing out that despite the Indian government’s lockdown imposition, the staff is working longer than usual to ensure vital service is available during the lockdown. Sikyong assured that CTA was doing everything to tackle the pandemic and requested the public to stay indoors as the pandemic is predicted to peak in the month of May and June.
