Monk driven to suicide by Chinese harassment
Jan. 21 (TibetanReview): Unbearable harassment over his meeting with the Dalai Lama in 2007 has recently driven a monk in northern Tibet’s Sog County to commit suicide by hanging himself by his neck in his living quarter. Lobsang Palden, 48, was found dead on Nov. 15, 2010 at Dradhel monastery in Trido township, Nagchu prefecture. Chinese officials from the local Religious Affairs Bureau were reported to have constantly harassed and threatened him for his alleged links with the Dalai Lama simply because of the 2007 meeting. They were reported to have interrogated him for several hours before his death and to have threatened to expel him from the monastery.
