China relocates 43,359 Tibetan nomad families in 4 yrs
Dec. 1 (Tibetan Review): With a more than 1.08 billion-yuan “support” from China’s National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Agriculture, the Chinese government in the Tibet Autonomous Region ensured that 43,359 families in the region gave up their nomadic lives to live in fixed settlements over the period of 2006-2010.
The move, which compelled the Tibetan nomads to give up the only way of life they had known for countless generations in the past, was one of the key projects implemented in the region in China’s 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010).
