Tibetan writer sentenced to 4-yr prison term

June 4 (Phayul): Influential Tibetan writer Tashi Rabten (penname – Theurang) has been sentenced to a 4-year prison term by a Chinese court in eastern Tibet.

The Ngaba Intermediate People’s Court in a closed-door trial on June 2 passed the sentence. Radio Free Asia said the court found Tashi Rabten, editor of banned literary magazine ‘Shar Dungri’ (Eastern Snow Mountain) guilty on charges of “inciting activities to split the nation”.
