Delhi Celebrated His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 78th Birthday

New Delhi: Hundreds of Tibetans attended a ceremony in celebration of the 78th Birth Anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at TCV Day school, Tibetan Samyeling Settlement, Majnukatilla on 6 July.

Kasur Tempa Tsering, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama graced the occasion as the chief guest and Mr. Wajahat Habibullah, Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities, Government of India as the guest of Honour, along with several other dignitaries.

Tibetan cultural songs and dances were presented and concluded with a free lunch for all the attendees.

In the evening, Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, New Delhi organized a dinner reception for the Indian dignitaries, including foreign missions based in Delhi on the occasion of the 78th Birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at Silver Oak, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

The reception started with the welcome introduction by Kasur Tempa Tsering, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and a first hand experience account by Dr. Pradeep Chowbey, internationally acclaimed surgeon of Max Hospital. It was followed by a Tibetan Buddhist prayer for long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Uttarakhand Flood and world peace. Students of TCV Gopalpur School presented traditional Tibetan cultural songs.

This year, Bureau also organized a book exhibition at the venue and displayed more than 250 books authored and written on His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The books displayed are the personal collection of Mr. Gonpo Gyal, who was especially invited for the book exhibition.

Around 300 guest attended the dinner reception, belonging to various professions and background. The guest include foreign diplomats; Members of Parliament; Indian Government Officials; Intellectuals; Educationists; Religious figures; former Army Officers; Lawyers; Social Activist; Tibet Support Groups; Civil Societies; and others.
