US envoy raises Tibetan refugees with Nepal PM

Feb. 15 (Republica): Visiting US Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Maria Otero has expressed concern with Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal about the problems faced by Tibetan refugees in Nepal.

At the Feb. 14 meeting, Otero who is also the US Coordinator on Tibetan Issues also urged Nepal to treat Tibetan refugees as per the international human rights obligations.

After the meeting Otero told media persons, “We made it clear that this is an important issue for us and that we are concerned about. And we will proceed to look at it very carefully.”
