Ngaba crisis: Teenage monk detained, 55,000 troops on guard

May 23 (Phayul): Lobsang Chophel, a 19-yr-old monk was arrested on May 12 as Chinese authorities in Tibet’s Ngaba County continue to subject monks of Kirti monastery to “Patriotic Education” Campaign. Meanwhile, a Tibetan monk named Lobsang Dhargye who was arrested on May 2 this year from the monastery has been sentencd to 3 years in prison. 

Currently, there are an estimated 55,000 Chinese troops in Ngaba according to a foreign reporter who is said to have overheard the figure from a Chinese soldier stationed at a new military camp on the outskirts of the monastery.
