China detains Tibetan nun for protesting, tourist for photographing her
A nun named Shedrub Lhamo staged a lone protest on Aug 25 morning at Karze town in Karze (Chinese: Ganzi) County of Sichuan Province and was soon detained by Chinese police, reported Radio Free Asia (Washington) Aug 27. She shouted prayers calling for long life for the Dalai Lama and for his return from exile. She also called for freedom in Tibet and threw leaflets in the air before being seized and taken away by Chinese police.
The Exile Tibetan Administration at Dharamsala said Aug 27 that the 33-year-old nun was severely beaten while being detained.
